The idle speed control (ISC) assembly is a throttle body with an integrated motor that is used to control the engine speed at idle. The engine control module (ECM) commands the integrated ISC motor to adjust the throttle angle for idle speed control. The ECM uses a high control circuit and a low control circuit to command the ISC motor. The ECM detects the adaptation value exceeds the throttle position (TP) sensor or the idle speed control (ISC) position sensor values, this DTC sets.
This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC:
DTC P2119 Idle Speed Control (ISC) System Performance
• | The ignition is cycled from OFF to ON. |
• | This DTC runs once per ignition cycle when the above condition is met. |
The ECM detects the adaptation value exceeds the throttle position (TP) sensor or the idle speed control (ISC) position sensor values.
• | The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on the second consecutive ignition cycle that the diagnostic runs and fails. |
• | The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The first time the diagnostic fails, the control module stores this information in the Failure Records. If the diagnostic reports a failure on the second consecutive ignition cycle, the control module records the operating conditions at the time of the failure. The control module writes the operating conditions to the Freeze Frame and updates the Failure Records. |
• | The control module turns OFF the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail. |
• | A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes. |
• | A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic. |
• | Clear the MIL and the DTC with a scan tool. |
The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

Notice: Do NOT use the low reference circuit in the component harness connector for this test. Damage to the control module may occur due to excessive current draw. Important: Use the J 35616-200 Test Lamp Kit for this test. If the J 35616-200 is not available, use a test lamp that measures more than 20 ohms.
