Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the cooling surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  3. Object Number: 1506464  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the ABS wiring harness connector (1) from the socket on the electronic brake control module (EBCM).
  5. Cover the connector and the socket with shop cloths to as protection from brake fluid.

  6. Object Number: 1506465  Size: SH

    Important: Do not allow air from the master cylinder into the hydraulic unit or the brake pipes. If air gets into the hydraulic unit, perform a bleeding procedure using a scan tool programmed for the ABS system. As long as no air enters the hydraulic unit, a simple bleeding procedure is all the system will require.

  7. Remove the 6 brake pipe fitting nuts (1) from the hydraulic unit.

  9. Remove the mounting bracket bolts (2) from the brake modulator assembly.
  10. Remove the brake modulator assembly.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1506465  Size: SH
  1. Install the 6 brake pipe fitting nuts (1).
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 16 N·m (12 lb ft).

  3. Install the brake modulator assembly and secure with the mounting bracket bolts (2).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  5. Connect the ABS wiring harness (1).
  6. Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Notice in the Preface section.

  7. Inspect the fluid level of the brake master cylinder. Add new brake fluid as required.
  8. Bleed the brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding in Hydraulic Brakes.
  9. Test the brake system for leaks.
  10. Install the cooling surge tank. Refer to Radiator Surge Tank Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
