Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. The chime module is under the instrument panel on the left side.

  2. The wires at the ignition switch may be RD and BK, but they connect to OG and L-GN at the two-pin connector.

Inspect fuse EF11 and EF12.

  1. Inspect for a short circuit and repair it, if necessary.
  2. Replace the open fuse.

Measure the voltage at fuse EF11.

Is the voltage within the specified value?

11-14 V

Repair the power supply for fuse EF11.

  1. Turn on the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Measure the voltage at fuse EF12.

Is the voltage within the specified value?

11-14 V

Repair the power supply for fuse EF12.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

  1. Disconnect the chime module electrical connector.
  2. Turn on the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. Measure the voltage at terminal B27 of the ISU connector.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

11-14 V

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 8

Repair the open circuit between fuse EF12 and ISU connector terminal B27.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

  1. Disconnect the chime module electrical connector.
  2. Insert the key in the ignition switch.
  3. Measure the voltage at terminal B23 of the ISU connector.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

11-14 V

Go to Step 15

Go to Step 10

  1. There are 2 wires from the key reminder which lead to an instrument harness connector. Disconnect that 2-pin connector.
  2. Measure the voltage at the circuit wire from terminal 2.

Is the voltage within the specified range?

11-14 V

Go to Step 12

Repair the open circuit between fuse EF11 and the key reminder switch.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

--

  1. Insert a key into the ignition switch.
  2. With the 2-pin key reminder connector still disconnected, connect one ohmmeter lead to each wire leading to the key reminder switch.

Is the continuity equal to the specified value?

0 ohms

Go to Step 14

Replace the ignition switch. Refer to Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

Repair the open circuit between the connector for the key reminder switch and ISU connector terminal B23.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK

  1. Open the driver's side door.
  2. With the chime module electrical connector still disconnected, connect an ohmmeter between ground and terminal A8 of the ISU.
  3. Is the continuity equal to the specified value?

0 ohms

Go to Step 16

Replace the chime module. Refer to Intelligent Switching Unit Replacement in Body Control System.

Repair the open circuit between ground and terminal A8 of the ISU connector. The driver door contact switch should be closed when the driver's side door is open.
