THIS BULLETIN IS ISSUED TO UPDATE THE ECM SOFTWARE CALIBRATION WITH NEW PART NUMBER INFORMATION IN CERTAIN 2004 AND 2005 CHEVROLET EPICA VEHICLES.
This bulletin provides information about installing new Engine Control Module (ECM) software and calibration on certain 2004-05 Chevrolet Epica model vehicles, equipped with a 2.5L L6 (VIN L - RPO LBK) engine. The revised calibration includes diagnostic system improvements that should be installed as soon as practical. Install the new calibration on all affected vehicles identified in this bulletin, including vehicles in new dealer inventory and any vehicles that return for service, for any reason, during the applicable 8 year / 130,000 km emission controller warranty coverage period. To verify if an updated calibration is required, refer to the following procedure in this bulletin.
Important: Do not attempt to order the calibration number from GMSPO. The calibration numbers are programmed into the ECM via a Techline Tech 2 scan tool and the Techline Information System (TIS) 2000 terminal with the calibration update. Use data version 1.00 for 2006 or later, broadcast to dealers via GM Access on January 5, 2006, and on the latest TIS 2000 CD-ROM version #1.35/2006, available after January 23, 2006.
The GM Vehicle Inquiry System (GMVIS) must be checked to determine if a specific vehicle requires this action. If GMVIS indicates that this System Software Upgrade remains ‘open’ and ECM reprogramming has not taken place otherwise after the TIS Broadcast or CD-ROM availability dates identified in this bulletin, reprogram the ECM using a Tech 2 scan tool with the calibration update from Techline Information System (TIS) 2000.
Important: Before programming a control module, ensure that:
• Battery voltage is greater than 12 volts but less than 16 volts. The battery must be charged before programming the control module if the battery voltage is low. • Turn OFF or disable any system that may put a load on the vehicle’s battery, such as the following components: interior lamps, accessories, DRLs. Apply the parking brake to disable the DRLs. • Make certain all tool connections are secure.
• | Ignition key OFF for 10 seconds. |
• | Ignition key ON for 10 seconds. |
• | Ignition key OFF for 10 seconds. |
