This PI has been superseded to point out the importance to have the weight of the vehicle on the control arms before tightening the control arm bolts. Please discard PIC3259A.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.
Crunch (Dry rubber sound) noise from the front suspension over bumps when driving. This noise may be caused from a binding condition in the front lower control arm bushings.
Loosen both the front (horizontal) and rear (vertical) front control arm attachment bolts. Make sure you have the front control arms supporting the vehicle weight and then retighten the control arm bolts to factory specifications 110 Nm (81 lb ft).
Note: Do the same thing on the opposite side you are working on.
Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
