Subject:MIL Illuminated with Low Ambient Temperatures (Below 0°C [32°F]), Multiple DTCs Set with Common DTC of P161B (Optra) or P0605 (Epica) (Replace MAP Sensor)

Models:2004-2006 Chevrolet Epica (Canada Only)
2004-2007 Chevrolet Optra (Canada Only)
with 2.0L 4-Cylinder or 2.5L 6-Cylinder Engine (VINs C, L - RPOs L34, LBK)

Condition

Some customers may comment that the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) is illuminated in low ambient temperatures (below 0°C [32°F]).

Upon further investigation, the technician may find that the engine control module (ECM) has stored a MAP sensor DTC MAF sensor DTC in history along with one of the following DTCs:

    • P161B - Control Module Torque Performance (Chevrolet Optra only)
    • P0605 - Control Module Read Only Memory (ROM) (Chevrolet Epica only)

Cause

This condition may be caused by the MAP sensor vacuum port freezing in extreme cold weather.

Correction

A new design MAP Sensor, with a revised vacuum port, has been released to eliminate freezing to the MAP Sensor vacuum port in very cold weather.

If the vehicle experiences the condition described above, replace the MAP sensor.
