Exhaust Muffler Replacement Rear

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in the Preface section.




1. Remove the nuts that attach the rear muffler pipe flange to the front muffler pipe flange.
2. Remove the gasket from between the flanges.



3. Detach the rear muffler from the rubber hangers on the tail pipe end of the rear muffler assembly.
4. Remove the rear muffler assembly.
5. Inspect the rear muffler and the pipes for holes, damage, open seams, and other deterioration which could permit exhaust fumes to seep into the passenger compartment or the trunk.

1. Install the rear muffler assembly on the rubber hangers.



2. Install the gasket between the rear muffler pipe flange and the front muffler pipe flange.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

3. Install the front muffler pipe to the rear muffler pipe with the nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

Exhaust Muffler Replacement Front

Caution: Refer to Exhaust Service Caution in the Preface section.




1. Remove the nuts that secure the front muffler pipe to the exhaust front pipe flange.
2. Remove the gasket from the front pipe flange.



3. Remove the nuts and the gasket from the rear muffler pipe flange.
4. Disconnect the front muffler from the rubber hanger.
5. Remove the front muffler.
6. Inspect the exhaust pipe and the front muffler for holes, damage, open seams, or other deterioration which could permit exhaust fumes to seep into the passenger compartment or the trunk.

1. Connect the front muffler to the rubber hanger.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

2. Attach the front muffler and the gasket to the rear muffler using the nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).




3. Install the gasket into the front pipe flange.
4. Secure the front muffler assembly to the exhaust front pipe with the nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

Exhaust Muffler Replacement Diesel

Caution: In order to avoid being burned, do not service the exhaust system while it is still hot. Service the system when it is cool.

1. Remove the rear muffler retaining nuts.
2. Detach the both rear muffler assembly rubber hangers.
3. Remove the rear muffler.

1. Install the rear muffler.
2. Connect the rear muffler rubber hanger.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

3. Install the rear muffler retaining nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the rear muffler retaining nuts to 40 N·m (29.5 lb ft).
