Open the rear compartment.

Is the trunk ajar indicator illuminated?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition with the engine OFF.
  3. Close the rear compartment.
  4. With a scan tool observe the TRUNK OPEN SWITCH parameter in the ISU Central Locking data list.

Does the scan tool indicate the TRUNK OPEN SWITCH parameter as OPEN?

Go to Step 9

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid ajar switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal circuit and a good ground.

Is the trunk ajar indicator illuminated?

Go to Step 5

Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid ajar switch signal and ground circuits.

Is the trunk ajar indicator illuminated?

Go to Step 8

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Go to Step 12

Repair open or high resistance in the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Repair open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 12

Inspect for an open or high resistance in the ajar signal circuit to the instrument cluster. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Go to Step 12

Replace the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (IPC).

Did you complete the replacement?

Replace the rear compartment lid ajar switch. Refer to Rear Compartment Lid Latch Replacement .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
