Power Steering Pump Hoses and Pipes Replacement 2.5L and 2.0L Gasoline Engines

Removal Procedure

  1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
  2. Place a drain pan under the vehicle. Use a rag in order to absorb any spilled fluid.
  3. Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Loosen the fitting and remove the pressure pipe (1) from the power steering pump (2).

  5. Object Number: 1862520  Size: SH
  6. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the return hose from the fluid reservoir.

  7. Object Number: 1255829  Size: SH
  8. Remove the pressure pipe bracket bolt from the generator.
  9. Remove the return pipe bracket bolt in front of the power steering pump.
  10. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  11. Object Number: 1255830  Size: SH
  12. Loosen the fitting and remove the pressure pipe from the power steering gear inlet.
  13. Remove the return pipe bracket bolt near the power steering gear.

  14. Object Number: 1255831  Size: SH
  15. Loosen the fitting and remove the return pipe from the power steering gear outlet.

  16. Object Number: 1255616  Size: SH
  17. Remove the return pipe bracket bolts from the front crossmember.

  18. Object Number: 1255833  Size: SH
  19. Remove the return pipe bracket bolts near the radiator.
  20. Remove the return pipe and the pressure pipe from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Route the pressure pipe from the power steering pump to the power steering gear.
  2. Route the return pipe from the power steering fluid reservoir to the power steering gear.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1255833  Size: SH
  4. Install the return pipe bracket bolts near the radiator.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the return pipe bracket bolts to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

  6. Install the return pipe bracket bolts to the front crossmember.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the return pipe bracket bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  8. Install the return pipe to the power steering gear outlet.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the return pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  10. Install the pressure pipe to the power steering gear inlet.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  12. Install the return pipe bracket bolt in front of the power steering pump.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the return pipe bracket bolt to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

  14. Install the pressure pipe bracket bolt to the generator.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe bracket bolt to 10 N·m (7 lb ft).

  16. Install the return hose and the hose clamp to the fluid reservoir.

  17. Object Number: 1862516  Size: SH
  18. Install the pressure pipe (1) to the power steering pump (2).
  19. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

    Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in the Preface section.

  20. Fill the fluid reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  21. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in the Preface section.

  22. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  23. Inspect for leaks. If there are leaks, correct the cause of the leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
  24. Lower the vehicle.

Power Steering Pump Hoses and Pipes Replacement 2.0L Diesel Engine

Removal Procedure

  1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
  2. Place a drain pan under the vehicle. Use a rag in order to absorb any spilled fluid.
  3. Remove the engine beauty cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  4. Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.

  5. Loosen the fitting and remove the pressure pipe (1) from the power steering pump.

  6. Object Number: 1862520  Size: SH
  7. Loosen the hose clamp and remove the return hose from the fluid reservoir.
  8. Remove the pressure pipe bracket bolt from the generator.

  9. Object Number: 1825805  Size: SH
  10. Remove the return pipe bracket nut (2) in front of the power steering pump.
  11. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  12. Object Number: 1862521  Size: SH
  13. Remove the pressure pipe bracket nut (1) from the heat shield on the power steering gear.

  14. Object Number: 1255830  Size: SH
  15. Loosen the fitting and remove the pressure pipe from the power steering gear inlet.
  16. Remove the return pipe bracket bolt near the power steering gear.

  17. Object Number: 1255831  Size: SH
  18. Loosen the fitting and remove the return pipe from the power steering gear outlet.

  19. Object Number: 1862523  Size: SH
  20. Remove the return pipe bracket bolts (1, 2, 3) from the front crossmember.

  21. Object Number: 1862524  Size: SH
  22. Remove the return pipe bracket bolts (1, 2) near the radiator.
  23. Remove the return pipe and the pressure pipe from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Route the pressure pipe from the power steering pump to the power steering gear.
  2. Route the return pipe from the power steering fluid reservoir to the power steering gear.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the return pipe bracket bolts (1, 2) near the radiator.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the return pipe bracket bolts to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

  6. Install the return pipe bracket bolts (1, 2, 3) to the front crossmember.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the return pipe bracket bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).


    Object Number: 1255831  Size: SH
  8. Install the return pipe to the power steering gear outlet.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the return pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  10. Install the pressure pipe to the power steering gear inlet.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).


    Object Number: 1862521  Size: SH
  12. Install the pressure pipe nut (1) to the heat shield on the power steering gear.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).


    Object Number: 1825805  Size: SH
  14. Install the return pipe bracket nut (2) in front of the power steering pump.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the return pipe bracket nut to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).

  16. Install the pressure pipe bracket bolt to the generator.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe bracket bolt to 10 N·m (7 lb ft).

  18. Install the return hose and the hose clamp to the fluid reservoir.

  19. Object Number: 1862518  Size: SH
  20. Install the pressure pipe (1) to the power steering pump.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  22. Install the engine beauty cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  23. Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in the Preface section.

  24. Fill the fluid reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid .
  25. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in the Preface section.

  26. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  27. Inspect for leaks. If there are leaks, correct the cause of the leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks .
  28. Lower the vehicle.
