Circuit Description

This DTC is used to identify the condition of communicate area network (CAN) between electronic brake control module (EBCM) and engine control module (ECM) or transaxle control module (TCM).

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTCs:

    • DTC C1605 CAN Bus Error
    • DTC C1611 CAN Bus Error
    • DTC C1612 CAN Bus Error
    • DTC C1616 CAN Bus OFF Failure

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition is in the ON position.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

    • Wiring harness (or connector) between EBCM and ECM (or TCM) is shorted or opened.
    • ECM (or TCM) or EBCM internal fault.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • DTC C1605, C1611, C1612, C1616 is (are) stored.
    • TCS disabled, TCS warning lamp turns on.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

If the conditions that the DTC C1605, C1611, C1612, C1616 is (are) no longer present, then the DTC (s) can be cleared by scan tool.

Check the engine control module (ECM) and transaxle control module (TCM).

Did you find any DTCs?

Go to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle

Go to Step 3

Check the wiring, terminal and connectors between the electronic brake control module (EBCM) and the ECM or TCM.

Are the wiring, terminals and connectors OK?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

  1. Repair the wiring, terminals and connectors between the EBCM and the ECM (or TCM). Check again the DTC using scan tool.
  2. Perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle .

Did the DTC reset?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Replace the EBCM.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 6

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC as specified in the supporting text.

Does the DTC reset?

Go to Step 2
