Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1863838 Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  3. Remove the charge air system hoses and ducts. Refer to Charge Air Cooler Inlet Pipe and Outlet Pipe Replacement .

    4. Object Number: 1820622 Size: SH
  4. Remove the PCV valve and adapter. Refer to Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose/Pipe/Tube Replacement .
  5. Remove the glow plug heat shield.

    6. Object Number: 1820624 Size: SH
  6. Disconnect the glow plug wiring harness.

    7. Object Number: 1820625 Size: SH

    Important: If it is necessary to remove the No. 3 and No. 4 glow plugs, the turbocharger must be removed to gain access. Refer to Turbocharger Replacement .

  7. Remove the glow plug.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1820625 Size: SH
  1. Install the glow plug.

    2. Tighten
    Tighten the glow plug to 9 N·m (79.7 lb in).


    Object Number: 1820622 Size: SH
  2. Install the glow plug heat shield.

    3. Tighten

        • Tighten the glow plug heat shield bolt to 20 N·m (14.8 lb ft).
        • Tighten the glow plug heat shield nut engine lift bracket retaining nut to 28 N·m (20.6 lb ft).
