Power Steering Pump Hoses and Pipes Replacement 2.5L and 2.0L Gasoline Engines
Removal Procedure
- Siphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
- Place a drain pan under the vehicle. Use a rag in order to absorb any spilled fluid.
Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the pressure pipe (1) from the power steering pump (2).
- Loosen the hose clamp and remove the return hose from the fluid reservoir.
- Remove the pressure pipe bracket bolt from the generator.
- Remove the return pipe bracket bolt in front of the power steering pump.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the pressure pipe from the power steering gear inlet.
- Remove the return pipe bracket bolt near the power steering gear.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the return pipe from the power steering gear outlet.
- Remove the return pipe bracket bolts from the front crossmember.
- Remove the return pipe bracket bolts near the radiator.
- Remove the return pipe and the pressure pipe from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Notice: Refer to Installing Hoses without Twists or Bends Notice in the Preface section.
- Route the pressure pipe from the power steering pump to the power steering gear.
- Route the return pipe from the power steering fluid reservoir to the power steering gear.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the return pipe bracket bolts near the radiator.
Tighten
Tighten the return pipe bracket bolts to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).
- Install the return pipe bracket bolts to the front crossmember.
Tighten
Tighten the return pipe bracket bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the return pipe to the power steering gear outlet.
Tighten
Tighten the return pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Install the pressure pipe to the power steering gear inlet.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Install the return pipe bracket bolt in front of the power steering pump.
Tighten
Tighten the return pipe bracket bolt to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).
- Install the pressure pipe bracket bolt to the generator.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe bracket bolt to 10 N·m (7 lb ft).
- Install the return hose and the hose clamp to the fluid reservoir.
- Install the pressure pipe (1) to the power steering pump (2).
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

- Fill the fluid reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to
Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid
.

- Bleed the power steering system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
.
- Inspect for leaks. If there are leaks, correct the cause of the leaks. Refer to
Power Steering Fluid Leaks
.
- Lower the vehicle.
Power Steering Pump Hoses and Pipes Replacement 2.0L Diesel Engine
Removal Procedure
- Siphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
- Place a drain pan under the vehicle. Use a rag in order to absorb any spilled fluid.
- Remove the engine beauty cover. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
.
Notice: Refer to Power Steering Hose Disconnected Notice in the Preface section.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the pressure pipe (1) from the power steering pump.
- Loosen the hose clamp and remove the return hose from the fluid reservoir.
- Remove the pressure pipe bracket bolt from the generator.
- Remove the return pipe bracket nut (2) in front of the power steering pump.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Remove the pressure pipe bracket nut (1) from the heat shield on the power steering gear.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the pressure pipe from the power steering gear inlet.
- Remove the return pipe bracket bolt near the power steering gear.
- Loosen the fitting and remove the return pipe from the power steering gear outlet.
- Remove the return pipe bracket bolts (1, 2, 3) from the front crossmember.
- Remove the return pipe bracket bolts (1, 2) near the radiator.
- Remove the return pipe and the pressure pipe from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure

- Route the pressure pipe from the power steering pump to the power steering gear.
- Route the return pipe from the power steering fluid reservoir to the power steering gear.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- Install the return pipe bracket bolts (1, 2) near the radiator.
Tighten
Tighten the return pipe bracket bolts to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).
- Install the return pipe bracket bolts (1, 2, 3) to the front crossmember.
Tighten
Tighten the return pipe bracket bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the return pipe to the power steering gear outlet.
Tighten
Tighten the return pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Install the pressure pipe to the power steering gear inlet.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Install the pressure pipe nut (1) to the heat shield on the power steering gear.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
- Install the return pipe bracket nut (2) in front of the power steering pump.
Tighten
Tighten the return pipe bracket nut to 14 N·m (10 lb ft).
- Install the pressure pipe bracket bolt to the generator.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe bracket bolt to 10 N·m (7 lb ft).
- Install the return hose and the hose clamp to the fluid reservoir.
- Install the pressure pipe (1) to the power steering pump.
Tighten
Tighten the pressure pipe fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Install the engine beauty cover. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
.

- Fill the fluid reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to
