Removal Procedure

    Important: The left-hand drive model is shown. The right-hand drive model is similar.

  1. Siphon the power steering fluid from the fluid reservoir.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.

  3. Object Number: 1864217  Size: SH
  4. Loosen the fittings and remove the power steering gear hydraulic cylinder pipes from the power steering gear at the valve end.
  5. Discard the O-ring seals if necessary.
  6. Loosen the fittings and remove the power steering gear hydraulic cylinder pipes from the power steering gear at the cylinder end.
  7. Remove the steering gear hydraulic cylinder pipes from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Replace the O-ring seals if necessary.
  2. Notice: Refer to Using Proper Power Steering Fluid Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Lubricate the O-ring seals with power steering fluid.
  4. Place the O-ring seals into the housing.
  5. Position the power steering gear hydraulic cylinder pipes on the steering gear.
  6. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  7. Install the power steering gear hydraulic cylinder pipes and the fittings to the power steering gear at the valve end.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the hydraulic cylinder pipe fittings at the valve end to 13 N·m (10 lb ft).

  9. Install the power steering gear hydraulic cylinder pipes and the fittings to the power steering gear at the cylinder end.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the hydraulic cylinder pipe fittings at the cylinder end to 13 N·m (10 lb ft).

  11. Fill the fluid reservoir with power steering fluid. Refer to Checking and Adding Power Steering Fluid.
  12. Notice: Refer to Air in the Power Steering System Notice in the Preface section.

  13. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding.
  14. Inspect for leaks. If there are leaks, correct the cause of the leaks. Refer to Power Steering Fluid Leaks.
  15. Lower the vehicle.
