REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING

The remote keyless entry system allows for the use of as many as two transmitters for each vehicle. Replacement remote keyless entry system transmitters must first be programmed to the vehicle using the scan tool.

This process utilizes serial data communication between the scan tool and the remote keyless entry control unit and is the only method available for programming transmitters.

All transmitters for a specific vehicle must be programmed at the same time. Once the programming function of the remote keyless entry system is activated, any transmitter (existing or new) that is not programmed (or reprogrammed) during the programming procedure will no longer operate the remote keyless entry system of that vehicle.

  1. Ensure that the doors, hood and trunk/rear hatch are closed prior to starting the programming procedure. Important: Ensure that transmitters from other vehicles in the immediate area are not activated during this procedure.
  2. Ignition ON, install the scan tool.
  3. Select the following under Diagnostics:
  4. • Body
    • ISU (Intelligent Switching Unit)
    • Programming
    • Program Transponder and Remote Key
  5. Follow the scan tool instructions with each transmitter until all transmitters are programmed.
  6. When all the desired transmitters have been programmed, cycle the ignition from ON to OFF, exit the vehicle, and operate the transmitter functions in order to verify correct system operation.
