GM Service Manual Online
For 1990-2009 cars only

Important: When adding or replacing a key, be sure to use the correct key for the vehicle. An incorrect key may be of a different size than the key intended for the vehicle. This difference in size could damage the vehicles ignition components.

The ignition lock cylinder does not contain any coded electronic components. The lock cylinder housing contains the coded electronic components. Changing an ignition lock cylinder or adding a key is a purely mechanical process which does not affect the vehicle theft deterrent system. To add a key, simply cut a new key to match the existing one. To change the lock cylinder, simply replace the existing lock cylinder with one of the same type.
