- Clean the A/C clutch field coil and the pulley mounting surfaces.
- Install the A/C clutch field coil.
Important: Ensure that the field coil snap ring is installed
with the bevel side out.
- Install the field coil snap ring to the compressor.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the thermal switch to the compressor:
4.1. | Clean the thermal switch pocket if necessary. |
4.2. | Install the thermal switch sealant in switch pocket. |
4.3. | Install the thermal switch, pushing into place to wet out sealant. Remove
any excess sealant. |
4.4. | Install the hold down bracket. |
4.5. | Install the hold down bracket bolt. |
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
Important: The A/C clutch bearing and pulley is a slip
fit on the compressor. If correctly aligned it should slip on easily. If difficulty
is encountered, install using the pulley installer.
- Use J 45504
if necessary,
to align the clutch bearing/pulley assembly over the hub and gently tap to install.
Important: Ensure that the pulley snap ring is installed
with the bevel side out.
- Install the snap ring to the pulley.
- Install the spacer.
Important: Be sure to align the block tooth on disk/hub
assembly with groove in shaft.
- Align the disk/hub assembly with the shaft and install to the compressor.
- Install the old clutch nut to the compressor.
- Using a feeler gage, check the clearance between the disk/hub assembly
and the pulley. Ensure the clearance is 0.35 mm to 0.75 mm (0.014 in
to 0.030 in).
- If necessary, adjust the clearance by adding or subtracting clutch hub
spacers.
- Once the correct air gap is obtained, install new clutch nut.
- Tighten the clutch nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).
- Install the compressor to the vehicle. Refer to
Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement
