    • J 45504 Clutch Pulley Installer

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the compressor from the vehicle. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 932522  Size: SH
  3. Use J 45267 to hold the disk and hub assembly.
  4. Remove the nut retaining the disk and hub assembly to the compressor.

  5. Object Number: 932532  Size: SH
  6. Remove the spacer from the pulley.

  7. Object Number: 932542  Size: SH
  8. Remove the snap ring from the pulley.
  9. Using J 25031-A , remove the A/C Clutch Pulley from the compressor.

  10. Object Number: 932586  Size: SH
  11. Remove the thermal switch from the compressor:
  12. 7.1. Remove the hold down bracket bolt.
    7.2. Remove the hold down bracket.
    7.3. Gently twist and pull the thermal protection switch from the compressor. Use a small screwdriver to gently pry the switch from the compressor.

  13. Remove the field coil snap ring.

  15. Remove the A/C clutch field coil.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 932572  Size: SH
  1. Clean the A/C clutch field coil and the pulley mounting surfaces.
  2. Install the A/C clutch field coil.

  3. Object Number: 932565  Size: SH

    Important: Ensure that the field coil snap ring is installed with the bevel side out.

  4. Install the field coil snap ring to the compressor.

  5. Object Number: 932586  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the thermal switch to the compressor:
  7. 4.1. Clean the thermal switch pocket if necessary.
    4.2. Install the thermal switch sealant in switch pocket.
    4.3. Install the thermal switch, pushing into place to wet out sealant. Remove any excess sealant.
    4.4. Install the hold down bracket.
    4.5. Install the hold down bracket bolt.

    Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 6 N·m (53 lb in).

    Important: The A/C clutch bearing and pulley is a slip fit on the compressor. If correctly aligned it should slip on easily. If difficulty is encountered, install using the pulley installer.

  8. Use J 45504 if necessary, to align the clutch bearing/pulley assembly over the hub and gently tap to install.

    Important: Ensure that the pulley snap ring is installed with the bevel side out.

  10. Install the snap ring to the pulley.

  12. Install the spacer.

    Important: Be sure to align the block tooth on disk/hub assembly with groove in shaft.

  14. Align the disk/hub assembly with the shaft and install to the compressor.
  15. Install the old clutch nut to the compressor.
  16. Using a feeler gage, check the clearance between the disk/hub assembly and the pulley. Ensure the clearance is 0.35 mm to 0.75 mm (0.014 in to 0.030 in).
  17. If necessary, adjust the clearance by adding or subtracting clutch hub spacers.

  18. Object Number: 932582  Size: SH
  19. Once the correct air gap is obtained, install new clutch nut.

  20. Object Number: 932522  Size: SH
  21. Tighten the clutch nut.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).

  23. Install the compressor to the vehicle. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement .
