Circuit Description

The LOW battery detection is handled inside the transmitter. The transmitter sends a battery condition signal to the body control module (BCM) when any transmitter button is pressed.

DTC Descriptor

This diagnostic procedure supports the following DTC.

DTC B3109 Low Battery Signal from Programmed Fob.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

This code shall be set whenever a low battery signal is received from any programmed transmitter.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • This code is cleared as current when a normal transmitter voltage signal is received from any programmed transmitter.
    • A scan tool may be used to clear history and current DTCs.

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step identifies the transmitter with a low battery signal.

  2. This step verifies that the battery replacement corrected the fault.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. With a scan tool, clear the DTC.
  2. Press a button on each of the transmitters while monitoring the scan tool body control module (BCM) DTC list.

Does the scan tool indicate that DTC B3109 reset when the button was pressed on any of the transmitters?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Replace the battery on the transmitters that reset DTC B3109. Refer to Transmitter Battery Replacement .

Did you complete the battery replacement?

Go to Step 4

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the transmitters that had the battery replaced.

Does the DTC reset?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 8

  1. Replace the transmitters.
  2. Ensure that the replacement transmitters is the correct model for the vehicle.
  3. All transmitters must be programmed at the same time. Refer to Transmitter Programming .

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 6

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  2. Operate the replaced transmitters 3 consecutive times.

Does the DTC reset?

Go to Step 8

Important: When replacing the BCM, perform the transmitter programming procedure. Refer to Transmitter Programming .

Replace the BCM. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 8

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
