Caution: Do not attempt to repair or alter the head impact energy-absorbing material glued to the headliner or to the garnish trims. If the material is damaged, replace the headliner and/or the garnish trim. Failure to do so could result in personal injury.

Notice: Use care when working around the head curtain inflator module. Sharp tools may puncture the curtain airbag. If the head curtain inflator module is damaged in any way, it must be replaced.

Notice: If a vehicle is equipped with a head curtain inflator module ensure that the inflator module and tether are undamaged. If tether or curtain airbag are damaged in any way, they must be replaced.

Notice: Use care when removing and installing the headliner. If reusing the headliner lay the headliner down flat on a clean surface. Excessive bending will damage the headliner.

Removal Procedure

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
  2. Remove the sunshade. Refer to Sunshade Replacement.
  3. Remove the optional reading lamp cover. Refer to Reading Lamp Replacement.

  5. Disconnect the optional OnStar® microphone harness.

  7. Disconnect the optional sunroof switch.
  8. Remove the windshield upper garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Upper Garnish Molding Replacement.
  9. Remove the upper center pillar molding. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Garnish Molding Replacement.
  10. Remove the dome lamp. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement.
  11. Remove the lock pillar garnish molding. Refer to Lock Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement.
  12. Remove the rear corner garnish molding. Refer to Body Rear Corner Garnish Molding Replacement.
  13. Remove the coat hooks. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement.

  15. Remove the rear pushpin.
  16. Pull back the quarter trim panel. Refer to Quarter Lower Rear Trim Panel Replacement.
  17. Remove the door seal from the headliner edge.

  18. Object Number: 977398  Size: SH
  19. Disconnect the headliner electrical connector behind the trim panel.
  20. Fold the passenger seat flat and the driver seat forward.

  22. Carefully disengage the hook and loop fasteners and the magnet attachments from the headliner and remove the headliner out from the liftgate opening.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 977455  Size: SH
  1. Position the headliner into the vehicle through the liftgate opening.
  2. Push on the hook and loop fasteners and the magnet attachments to partially secure the liner.

  3. Object Number: 977468  Size: SH
  4. Install the pushpin fastener at the rear of the headliner.
  5. Secure the weatherstrip over the edge of the headliner.

  7. Connect the sunroof switch electrical connectors.

  8. Object Number: 980764  Size: SH
  9. Connect the OnStar® microphone electrical connector.
  10. Install the reading lamp cover. Refer to Reading Lamp Replacement.
  11. Connect the OnStar® electrical connector.
  12. Install the sunshades. Refer to Sunshade Replacement.
  13. Install the windshield upper garnish molding. Refer to Windshield Upper Garnish Molding Replacement.
  14. Install the center pillar molding. Refer to Center Pillar Lower Garnish Molding Replacement.
  15. Install the dome lamp. Refer to Dome Lamp Replacement.

  16. Object Number: 977398  Size: SH
  17. Connect the headliner electrical connectors behind the cargo area trim panel. Connect the clips holding the wire to the metal.
  18. Install the driver side quarter trim panel. Refer to Quarter Lower Rear Trim Panel Replacement.
  19. Install the lock pillar garnish moldings. Refer to Lock Pillar Upper Garnish Molding Replacement.
  20. Install the rear garnish molding. Refer to Body Rear Corner Garnish Molding Replacement.
  21. Install the coat hooks. Refer to Coat Hook Replacement.
  22. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and to SIR Disabling and Enabling.
