The body control module (BCM) monitors the cruise control indicator switch. When the cruise on/off switch is pressed ON, the cruise control switch is closed and the signal circuit is low. When the cruise on/off switch is pressed OFF, the cruise control switch is open and the signal circuit is high.

1. Ignition OFF, remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement .
2. Disconnect the harness connector at the steering wheel controls switch-left.
3. Ignition ON, test for greater than 10 volts between the steering wheel control supply voltage circuit terminal 4 (Pontiac) or 1 (Chevrolet) and ground.

⇒	If less than the specified range, test the supply voltage circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.

4. Ignition ON, test for greater than 10 volts at the steering wheel control supply voltage circuit terminal 4 (Pontiac) or 1 (Chevrolet) and the cruise control indicator dimming signal circuit terminal 6 (Pontiac) or 9 (Chevrolet).

⇒	If less than the specified range, test the cruise control indicator dimming signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the BCM.

5. If all circuits test normal, replace the steering wheel controls switch-left.
