  1. Install NEW valve rocker arm cover grommets and use NEW valve rocker arm cover bolts if they are serviced with the grommet.

    2. Important: All gasket-mating surfaces need to be free of oil and foreign material. Use P/N 12378392 or equivalent to clean surfaces.

    Important: Apply sealant GM P/N 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148), or equivalent, at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint.

  2. Install a new gasket to the valve rocker arm cover. Ensure that the gasket is properly seated in the groove of the valve rocker arm cover.
  3. Apply sealer GM P/N 12378521 (Canadian P/N 88901148), or equivalent to the joint surfaces (1) where the cylinder head and intake manifold meet.

  4. Install the valve rocker arm cover.

    5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the valve rocker arm cover bolts.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the PCV fresh air tube (529).
  7. Install the ignition module studs (701).

    8. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition module studs to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Install the ignition module with the ignition wires still attached (700).
  9. Install the ignition module nuts (702) and bolts (703).

    10. Tighten
    Tighten the ignition module nuts and bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  10. Install the fresh air tube and wire harness retaining bolt (557).

    11. Tighten
    Tighten the fresh air tube and wire harness retaining bolt to 5 N·m (44 lb in).

  11. Install the heater outlet pipe (309).
  12. Install the heater outlet pipe nuts and bolt (310, 311, 318) to the upper intake manifold.

    13. Tighten

        • Tighten the heater outlet pipe nuts (310) and bolt (311) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
        • Tighten the heater outlet pipe nut (318) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
        • Tighten the throttle body bolts (515) to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
  13. Install the heater outlet pipe hose and hose clamp to the pipe.
  14. Install the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor (506), clip (505), and bolt (504) to the intake.

    15. Tighten
    Tighten the MAP sensor bolt to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
