Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Drain the rear differential. Refer to Rear Axle Lubricant Replacement .
  3. Remove the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement .
  4. Remove the spare tire.
  5. Important: In the following service procedure, it is not necessary to completely remove the propeller shaft. Relocate the propeller shaft to the side and secure with mechanics wire or equivalent.

  6. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  7. Remove the right rear wheel drive shaft. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
  8. Support rear differential with a transmission jack stand.

  10. Remove the right rear differential support bushing bolt. Refer to Differential Housing Support Bushing Replacement .

  11. Object Number: 1816752  Size: SH
  12. Remove the left differential mount (1).
  13. Remove the right differential support bushing nut (2). Refer to Differential Housing Support Bushing Replacement .
  14. Lower the differential to gain access to the axle shaft seal.

  15. Object Number: 1809272  Size: SH
  16. Using the appropriate tool, remove the axle shaft seal (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1809272  Size: SH
  1. Install the J 8092 to the J 33832 .
  2. Using the J 8092 and the J 33832 , install the axle shaft seal (1).
  3. Lift and position the differential in the rear cradle.

  4. Object Number: 1816830  Size: SH
  5. Install the left rear support bolt.

  6. Object Number: 1816752  Size: SH
  7. Install right differential support bushing nut (2). Refer to Differential Housing Support Bushing Replacement .
  8. Install the left differential mount (1). Refer to Differential Housing Support Bushing Replacement .
  9. Remove the transmission jack stand.
  10. Install the right rear wheel drive shaft. Refer to Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement
  11. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to Propeller Shaft Replacement .
  12. Install the exhaust system. Refer to Exhaust System Replacement
  13. Remove the spare tire.
  14. Fill the rear differential with fluid. Refer to Rear Axle Lubricant Replacement
