Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Warning: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  3. Place a drain pan or suitable container under the vehicle.

  4. Object Number: 945444  Size: SH
  5. Remove the transaxle oil cooler line assembly nut from the transaxle.
  6. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler lines from the vehicle.

  7. Object Number: 792754  Size: SH

    Note: Ensure that the J 45201 is fully seated into the transaxle seal bore.

  8. Insert the collet piece (2) of the J 45201 into the cooler line seal.
  9. Insert the forcing screw piece (1) of the J 45201 into the collet (2).
  10. Tighten the forcing screw (1) until snug.

  11. Object Number: 853327  Size: SH
  12. Thread the collar piece (1) of the J 45201 onto the collet (3) until snug.

  13. Object Number: 853328  Size: SH
  14. Turn the collar clockwise in order to remove the cooler line seal (87).
  15. Discard the seal (87).
  16. Clean the case bores for the cooler line seals.

Installation Procedure

  1. Insert a new transaxle cooler line seal into the case bore.

  2. Object Number: 992891  Size: SH
  3. Remove the nub from the J 41239-1A .

  4. Object Number: 948673  Size: SH
  5. Install the nub of the J 41239-1A on the transaxle cooler line seal.
  6. Tap the new transaxle cooler line seal into the case bore.

  7. Object Number: 945444  Size: SH
  8. Install the transaxle oil cooler line assembly to the transaxle.
  9. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  10. Install the transaxle oil cooler line assembly nut and tighten to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
  11. Lower the vehicle.
  12. Note: DEXRON® VI automatic transmission fluid is not compatible with this transaxle. If DEXRON® VI ATF is used, transaxle failure will result. This transaxle uses GM T-IV fluid P/N 88900925.

  13. Add fluid to the transaxle. Refer to Transmission Fluid Check procedure located in this service manual.
  14. Start the engine and check for leaks.
