    Warning: Bodily injury may occur if the cleaning solvent is inhaled or exposed to the skin.

  1. Clean the exhaust manifold and heat shield in solvent.
  2. Dry the exhaust manifold and heat shield with compressed air.
  3. Inspect the exhaust manifold for cracks or damage.
  4. Inspect the left exhaust manifold Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) flange for excessive scratches or damage.
  5. Inspect the left exhaust manifold EGR flange bolt hole threads for damage.
  6. Inspect the exhaust manifold mating surface for flatness.
  7. Use a feeler gage and straight edge to measure the exhaust manifold mating surface which should not exceed 0.5 mm (0.02 in) overall. Any exhaust manifold that is not within specifications must be replaced.
