Makes 🢒 Chevrolet 🢒 2009 🢒 Equinox 🢒 Engine 🢒 Engine Mechanical - 3.4L 🢒 Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement.

    2. Object Number: 1087865 Size: SH
  2. Disconnect the left side spark plug wires (1) from the retainers (2).

    3. Object Number: 1087864 Size: SH
  3. Remove the bolt (2) and the spark plug wire support (1).

    4. Object Number: 1870253 Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) foul air pipe (1) from the PCV valve.

    5. Object Number: 54369 Size: SH

    Caution: Valve rocker arm cover gasket and sealant must be carefully trimmed away from lower intake manifold gasket. Failure to do so will damage the lower intake manifold gasket, causing a severe oil leak.

  5. Loosen the valve rocker arm cover bolts.

    6. Object Number: 190588 Size: SH

    Note: When removing the valve rocker arm cover, ensure the gasket stays in place attached to the cylinder head.

  6. Remove the valve rocker arm cover.

    7. Bump the end of the valve rocker arm cover with the palm of your hand or a soft rubber mallet if the cover adheres to the cylinder head.

  7. Trim the valve cover gasket and sealant away from the lower intake manifold gasket at the cylinder head to the lower intake manifold joints (1).
  8. Remove the rocker arm cover gasket.
  9. Clean the sealing surface on the cylinder head with degreaser.
  10. Clean the valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Cleaning and Inspection.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 190588 Size: SH

    Note: All gasket mating surfaces need to be free of oil and foreign material. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number to use to clean surfaces.

    Note: Apply sealant at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joint. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers for the correct part number.

  1. Apply sealant at the cylinder head to lower intake manifold joints (1).

    2. Object Number: 54369 Size: SH
  2. Install a new gasket to the valve rocker arm cover. Ensure the gasket is properly seated in the groove of the valve rocker arm cover.

    3. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  3. Install the valve rocker arm cover and tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

    4. Object Number: 1870253 Size: SH
  4. Connect the PCV foul air pipe (1) to the PCV valve.

    5. Object Number: 1087864 Size: SH
  5. Install the spark plug wire support (1) and bolt (2) and tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    6. Object Number: 1087865 Size: SH
  6. Connect the left side spark plug wires (1) to the spark plug wire retainers (2).
  7. Install the fuel injector sight shield. Refer to Fuel Injector Sight Shield Replacement.
