Starter Replacement LNJ
Removal Procedure
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (4) from the starter.
Remove the starter solenoid nut (3).
Remove the positive battery cable terminal (2) and the engine wiring harness terminal (1) from the starter solenoid.
Remove the torque converter cover bolt (2).
Remove the torque converter cover (1).
Remove the starter motor bolts (2, 3).
Remove the starter motor (1).
Installation Procedure
Install the starter motor (1).
Caution:
Refer to
Fastener Caution
in the Preface section.
Install the starter motor bolts (2, 3) and tighten to
43 N·m (32 lb ft)
.
Install the torque converter cover (1).
Install the torque converter cover bolt (2) and tighten to
8 N·m (71 lb in)
.
Install the engine wiring harness terminal (1) and the positive battery cable terminal (2) to the starter solenoid.
Install the starter solenoid nut (3) and tighten to
10 N·m (89 lb in)
.
Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (4) to the starter.
Lower the vehicle.
Install the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.

Removal Procedure
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
Raise the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
Remove the front catalytic convertor. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side
.
Remove the positive battery cable terminal to starter solenoid nut (1).
Remove the generator wiring lead (6) from the starter solenoid.
Remove the positive battery cable lead from the starter solenoid.
Disconnect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) from the starter.
Remove the starter bolts and starter.
Installation Procedure
Position the starter motor in the engine block.
Caution:
Refer to
Fastener Caution
in the Preface section.
Install the starter bolts and tighten to
50 N·m (37 lb ft)
.
Connect the engine wiring harness electrical connector (1) to the starter.
Install the positive battery cable lead to the starter solenoid.
Install the generator wiring lead (6) to the starter solenoid.
Install the positive battery cable terminal to starter solenoid nut (1) and tighten to
10 N·m (89 lb in)
.
Install the front catalytic convertor. Refer to
Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side
.
Lower the vehicle.
Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to
Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection
.
