J 37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the front floor console. Refer to Console Replacement.
  2. Ensure the park brake lever is in the fully released position.

  3. Object Number: 891460  Size: SH
  4. Release the tension from the park brake cable system at the front cable adjusting nut (1).
  5. Using only hand tools, loosen the adjusting nut (1) completely to the end of the front cable threaded rod.

  6. Remove the rear carpet retainers. Refer to Rear Side Door Opening Floor Carpet Retainer Replacement.
  7. Position the carpet forward in order to access the rear park brake cables and body pass-through grommets.
  8. With the park brake lever (1) in the released position, release the appropriate rear park brake cable (2) from the cable equalizer.
  9. Release the rear cable fitting from the park brake lever bracket and remove the cable from the lever assembly.

  11. Fold back the park brake cable routing tabs on the vehicle interior floor.
  12. Release the rear park brake cable body pass-through grommet.

  14. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  15. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  16. Remove the bolt (1) from the park brake cable-to-underbody retainer.

  18. Remove the bolt (1) from the park brake cable retainer at the lower suspension trailing arm.
  19. Remove the cable (2) from the opening in the vehicle underbody.

  21. Slide the inner cable (1) forward and remove from the actuator.
  22. Slide the spring (2) forward
  23. Using the J 37043 , remove the park brake cable from the mounting bracket

Installation Procedure

    Note: After installing the park brake cable in the mounting bracket, ensure that the locking tabs on the cable are open and seated correctly against the mounting bracket.

  1. Install the park brake cable in the mounting bracket.

  2. Object Number: 1715103  Size: SH
  3. Slide the inner cable forward (1)  and install on the park brake actuator.
  4. Position the spring (2) against the mounting bracket.
  5. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

  6. Object Number: 1715101  Size: SH
  7. Insert the cable (2) through the opening in the vehicle underbody.
  8. Install the park brake cable retaining bracket to the rear suspension lower trailing arm.
  9. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  10. Install the bolt (1) to the park brake cable retainer and lower trailing arm.
  11. Tighten the bolt and nut to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  12. Install and secure park brake cable pass-through grommet to the opening in the vehicle underbody.
  13. Install the park brake cable (2) to the underbody retainer.
  14. Install the bolt to the park brake cable retainer and the vehicle underbody (3).
  15. Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  16. Lower the vehicle.

  18. Secure the cable fitting to the park brake lever bracket. Attempt to pull the park brake cable free of the lever bracket, to ensure that the retaining tabs on the fitting are properly secured.
  19. Install the cable end (2) to the cable equalizer.

  20. Object Number: 926790  Size: SH
  21. Position park brake cable to routing tabs on vehicle interior floor.
  22. Secure park brake cable to floor by folding routing tabs over park brake cable.
  23. Reposition the carpet to the installed position.
  24. Install the rear carpet retainers. Refer to Rear Side Door Opening Floor Carpet Retainer Replacement.
  25. Adjust the park brake cable tension. Refer to Parking Brake Adjustment.
  26. Install the front floor console. Refer to Console Replacement.
