Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

Caution: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

Preliminary Procedures

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.

Brake Caliper Guide Pin Bolt (Qty: 2)

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Procedure

  1. If reusing the brake caliper guide pin bolt, prepare the guide pin bolt and the guide pin as follows:
  2. 1.1. Thoroughly clean the threadlocker residue from the guide pin bolt threads with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    1.2. Thoroughly clean the threadlocker residue from the guide pin threads with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
  3. Apply high-temperature, high-strength threadlocker to 2/3 of the threaded length of the brake caliper guide pin bolt.
  4. Ensure there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the guide pin bolt.

  5. Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installing the guide pin bolts.

Tighten
27 N·m (20 lb ft).

Rear Brake Caliper

Tip

    • Do not disconnect the brake caliper hose.
    • Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.

Disc Brake Pad

Tip
Install the brake pads in their original positions. The brake pad with the wear sensor is mounted facing the inboard surface of the disc brake rotor.

Disc Brake Pad Shims (Qty: 2)

Tip
If installing new brake pads, discard the disc brake pad shims. Install NEW shims.

Brake Caliper Bracket Bolt (Qty: 2)

Procedure

  1. If reusing the brake caliper bracket bolt, prepare the bracket bolt as follows:
  2. 1.1. Thoroughly clean the threadlocker residue from the bracket bolt threads with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
    1.2. Thoroughly clean the threadlocker residue from the caliper bracket threaded holes with denatured alcohol or equivalent and allow to dry.
  3. Apply high-temperature, high-strength threadlocker to 2/3 of the threaded length of the bracket bolt.
  4. Ensure there are no gaps in the threadlocker along the length of the filled area of the bracket bolt.

  5. Allow the threadlocker to cure approximately 10 minutes before installing the bracket bolts.

Tighten
120 N·m (89 lb ft)
