Removal Procedure
Important: Valve rocker arm cover gaskets are reusable. Replace the valve rocker
arm cover gasket only if damaged.
- Open the hood.
Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads
must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury
and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.
- Disconnect
the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to
Battery Cable Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the engine cover from the vehicle. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Remove the air cleaner intake duct from the throttle body. Refer
to
Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Remove the spark plug wires. Refer to
Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement
.
- Remove the PCV valve.
- Remove the EGR inlet tube. Refer to
Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Remove the vent tube at the valve rocker arm cover.
- Remove the throttle body assembly. Refer to
Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
.
- Remove the throttle body studs from the upper intake manifold.
- Remove the valve rocker
arm cover bolts.
- Remove the valve rocker arm cover from the cylinder head.
- Remove the valve rocker arm cover gasket from the cylinder head.
- Inspect the valve rocker arm cover, valve rocker arm cover gasket,
and sealing surfaces for distortion and damage. Replace if necessary. Refer
to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Clean and Inspect
.
Installation Procedure
- Install the valve rocker
arm cover.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the valve
rocker arm cover bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the valve rocker arm cover bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
- Install the throttle body studs to the upper intake manifold.
Tighten
Tighten the studs to 12 N·m (106 lb in).
- Install the throttle body assembly. Refer to
Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
.
- Install the vent tube to the valve rocker arm cover.
- Install the EGR pipe from the exhaust manifold to the lower intake
manifold. Refer to
Exhaust Gas Recirculation Pipe Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Install the PCV valve and the tube.
- Connect the spark plug wires. Refer to
Spark Plug Wire Harness Replacement
.
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to
Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement
in Engine Controls.
- Install the engine cover to the vehicle. Refer to
Engine Cover Replacement
in Interior Trim.
- Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to
Battery Cable Replacement
.
- Close the hood.
