Removal Procedure

  1. Open the hood.
  2. Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  3. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  4. Remove the engine cover from the vehicle. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement in Interior Trim.

  5. Object Number: 234451  Size: SH
  6. Remove the retaining nut for the oil level indicator and tube.
  7. Remove the oil level indicator and tube from the engine block.

  8. Object Number: 173185  Size: SH
  9. Remove the O-ring from the oil level indicator and tube.

Installation Procedure

Important: When installing the oil level indicator tube to the engine, always use a new O-ring.

  1. Apply clean engine oil to the oil level indicator and tube O-ring.

  2. Object Number: 173185  Size: SH
  3. Install the new O-ring on the oil level indicator and tube.

  4. Object Number: 234451  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the oil level indicator and tube and retaining nut to the engine.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the oil level indicator and tube nut to 54 N·m (40 lb ft).

  7. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Cable Replacement in Engine Electrical.
  8. Close the hood.
