Alternate Frequencies (AF)

The alternate frequency (AF) feature allows the radio to automatically switch to another transmitter or frequency when the frequency signal strength drops below a preset level. The new transmitter or frequency is broadcasting the same program materials as the original frequency. The AF feature is user selectable. You can turn the AF feature ON and OFF. When you press the AF button, the button turns on the AF feature. If the radio is not tuned to a radio data system (RDS) station, the press of the AF button causes the radio to seek a RDS station. The radio will accept any RDS station regardless of the number of AFs broadcast on the station. If the AF is already ON, pressing the AF button turns the AF feature. An AF icon in the radio display indicates if the AF is ON or OFF.

Traffic Program (TP)

The traffic program (TP) feature enables the radio to receive traffic announcements. When you press the TP button, the button turns ON the traffic program. If the radio is not tuned to a ADS station, the same re-pressing the TP button causes the radio to seek to a RDS station that does have the traffic program. If the TP feature is ON, pressing the TP button turns the TP feature OFF. The radio has a TP icon that indicates if the traffic announcements can be received. The brackets around the TP icon in the radio indicate if the TP is ON or OFF. The following are the possible icon displays:

    • The current station or network is capable of broadcasting traffic programs.
    • The use has turned the TP feature on and the current station or network is capable of broadcasting traffic programs.
    • The user has turned the TP feature but there are currently no stations or networks being received that broadcast traffic programs.

During a traffic announcement the radio display will show TRAFFIC ANNOUNCE.

Traffic Announcement Volume

The traffic announcement volume is always equal to or greater than the current volume. This ensures that you hear the traffic messages even when the radio is at low volume settings. The traffic announcement volume feature allows the diver to turn the volume to a minimum and hear only the traffic messages. The traffic announcement volume is adjustable. The traffic announcement volume is set by pressing and holding the TP button for 2 seconds. Turn the VOLUME knob in order to increase or decrease the volume for the traffic announcements. When you hold the TP button for 2 or more seconds, the radio display will show SET TRAF VOLUME. Rotating the volume know changes the TP volume. The user hears the volume change. The bottom line of the radio display shows the volume by the number of blocks that are showing. The top line of the radio display continues to show SET TRAF. After 5 seconds of inactivity, the display times-out. The display returns to program service name (PS) and time of day (TOD). The PS and TOD icons will appear in the radio display.

Program Type Function (PTY)

Pressing the program type (PTY) button enables you to access the PTY features on the other buttons and the knobs. When you press the button the PTY icon will appear in the radio display. The icon indicates the user now had the radio in the PTY mode. All of the PTY features are now active. In the PTY mode, rotating the TUNE knob scrolls through the various format operations. The tune function is not available when the radio is in the PTY mode. Pressing the SEEK button while in the PTY mode will cause the radio to seek until a radio station with either the selected or the current program type is found. If you press the SEEK button and hold the button until SCAN initiates, the radio will scan each of the frequencies that currently match the program type selected. In order to assign a program type to a preset button (buttons numbered 1 through 6) while in the PTY mode select a program type. Press and hold any 1 of the preset buttons The radio display will show the program type selected and the corresponding preset button number.

Program Type Interrupt (PTY-1)

Select the program type that you desire. Refer to Program Type Function (PTY). Pressing and holding the PTY button will cause the display to show the program type AUTO ON. Rotating the PTY LIST knob allows the user to change the program type. Pressing the PTY button 1 more time before the radio display changes back to PS and TOD causes the radio display to show the program type AUTO OFF. After 5 seconds of inactivity, the PTY-1 modes times-out. The display returns to PS and TOD.

AUTO ON means that if there are no stations or networks currently being received that are broadcasting the selected PTY, as soon as 1 is available, the radio switches to that station or network. If the station or the network that the radio switches to changes the PTY, the radio switches back to the previous station or network.

Clock Time (CT)

The clock time (CT) is the feature that allows the RDS radio stations to update the vehicle clock automatically, if selected. While tuned to a RDS station, either in the PTY mode or not, the CT can turn ON or OFF by pressing and holding the HR and the MN buttons together for 2 seconds. The radio display will show CLOCK TIME ON or CLOCK TIME OFF. While either of these choices are showing in the radio display, a momentary press of wither the HR or the MN button will switch the feature to the opposite status. When you select the CLOCK TIME ON feature, 2 seconds after CLOCK TIME ON is shown in the display the display scrolls to show TIME ZON EST when EST is the currently selected time zone. While TIME ZON is shown in line 1 of the radio display, rotating the TUNE knob enables the user to select the appropriate time zone. Allow the CT mode to tune-out in 5 seconds. The CT feature will activate, if selected. The time-out is the only way to exit the CT mode.

Language Selection

While in the program type mode, pressing and holding the DISPLAY button for 2 seconds activates the language selection feature. Rotating the TUNE knob scrolls through the following available languages:

    • English
    • French
    • German
    • Swedish
    • Italian

When the desired language shows in the display, either allowing the display to time-out in 10 seconds or pressing the DISPLAY button selects the desired language. The language selection affects all of the text shown in the display. This includes the following texts:

    • The program types
    • The words CLOCK TIME
    • All other features described in the display

Program Identification (PI)

The program identification (PI) is received if the station broadcasts this feature. The PI code consists of 4 nibbles of data broadcast on the radio data system subcarrier. For regional variants, the second nibble of data is different.

Enhanced Other Network (EON)

The enhanced other network (EON) information allows the radio to update the AF list of a station to which the radio is not currently tuned. The EON feature allows the receiver to search for traffic announcements during playback. The EON feature allows the radio to react to the traffic announcements on the stations referenced by the EON. The radio will tune to any traffic announcement, including those from another network, during regular radio broadcasts or playback when the traffic program activates.

Program Service Name (PS)

If the radio station broadcasts the program service name (PS) the PS icon will show in the radio display along with the alpha-numeric characters indicating the station call letters, the slogan, or the frequency. The default display if PS and TOD.

Emergency Broadcast (PTY-31)

This feature provides for the interruption of the audio for the broadcast of a weather/disaster alert. Emergency by PTY-31 is described in the European standard. Sweden uses PTY-31 around all of the nuclear power plants as a public warning system. The nuclear power plant must supply to all homes a warning receiver that will sound an alarm in the event of an accident. This broadcast is received automatically. This broadcast requires no operation action.

There is no emergency broadcast test (PTY-30). This test is not a part of the European radio data system (RDS) standards.

Radio Operation During an Alert

The following sequence will occur when an alert if detected:

  1. If the playback device is in use, the radio will immediately switch the audio to the tuner. If the playback device is in play, the radio will pause during the alert. If the playback devise is performing any other playback function, the radio will cancel the function.
  2. The radio display will show ALARM. If the language specific provisions for PTY are available, the appropriate PTY-31 display characters will indicate.
  3. The volume will be set to the greater of the following volumes:
  4. • The customer defined traffic alert
    • The current listening
    • The minimum alert

During an alert the user may adjust the volume.

When the alert is complete, the following events will occur:

    • The volume will return to the previous lever unless the user changes the lever during the alert. If the user modifies the volume, the volume will remain at the modified level.
    • The playback devise will return to play if the device pauses during the alert.
If the playback function was active, the radio will return to the tuner mode. If the tuner was active, the display will return to PS and TOD.

Cancelling an Alert

You can re-enable the playback mode before the alert is complete by selecting any playback device. The alert also cancels when the radio or the ignition turns off.

Speed Compensated Volume

In order to turn the speed compensated volume (SCV) ON or OFF, press and hold the AUTO TONE button for 2 seconds. The display will show SPEED VOL OFF or SCV ON #### (# denotes blocks). If the SCV is off, another momentary press of the AUTO TONE button turns on the SCV. Pressing the AUTO TONE button again will turn off the SCV. While the SCV information is showing on the radio display, turning the VOLUME knob adjusts the amount of speed compensation. The number of blocks in the display indicate the amount of compensation. Allowing the SCV mode to time-out in 5 seconds retains the SCV setting at that point. Time-out is the only way to exit the SCV mode.
