- Raise the front of the vehicle off the ground until the wheels
turn freely.
- Remove the fluid return line at the pump inlet connector.
- Plug the connector port on the pump.
- Position the line toward a large container in order to catch the
draining fluid.
- While an assistant fills the reservoir with new power steering
fluid, idle the engine.
Important: Do not contact the wheel stops. Do not hold the steering wheel near
a stop position. This stops the fluid flow and places the pump in the pressure
relief mode. A sudden overflow from the reservoir may develop if
you hold the steering wheel at a stop.
- Turn the steering wheel near each stop.
- Install any lines, hoses, or components removed from the vehicle.
- Fill the system with new power steering fluid.
- Bleed the system. Refer to
Power Steering System Bleeding
.
- Operate the engine for approximately 15 minutes.
- Remove the pump return line at the pump inlet.
- Plug the connection on the pump.
Important: Do not re-use any drained power steering fluid.
- As the reservoir fills, inspect the draining fluid for contamination.
- If foreign material is still present, complete the following steps:
14.1. | Replace all of the lines. |
14.2. | Disassemble the power steering system components. |
14.3. | Clean the components. |
14.4. | Replace the components, if needed. |
