This diagnostic test checks for the Enable Password Learning Flag indicating the VCM is in learn password mode. This mode allows the VCM to learn the password from the Vehicle Theft Deterrent control module at assembly or when being serviced. The password needs to be learned whenever the VCM or the VTD control module is replaced.
The ignition is in the CRANK or RUN position.
The enable password learn flag is set.
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will not illuminate.
• | A history DTC will clear if no fault conditions have been detected for 40 warm-up cycles. |
• | A warm-up cycle occurs when the coolant temperature has risen 22°C (40°F) from the startup coolant temperature and the engine coolant temperature exceeds 70°C (160°F) during the same ignition cycle. |
• | Use the scan tool Clear Information function. |
The VCM in learn mode is a DTC for the vehicle at the assembly plant, dealership and outside garage personnel as an indication that the learn mode is enabled. This means the VCM is now ready to learn a new password.
