Removal Procedure
- Remove the air cleaner
assembly. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
- Remove the air intake duct.
- Remove the coolant reservoir or surge tank. Refer to
Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement
or
Radiator Surge Tank Replacement
.
- If equipped with 4.3L, 5.0L, and 5.7L, remove the bolt securing
the engine and transmission oil level indicator at the generator bracket.
- If equipped with 4.3L,
5.0L, and 5.7L, remove the bolt securing the engine oil fill tube at the
generator bracket.
- Move the oil level indicator tubes and oil fill tube away from
the fan shroud.
- If equipped with 6.5L,
remove the wiring harness clip retainers from the fan shroud.
- Remove the upper fan shroud retaining bolts from the top of the
radiator.
- Remove the upper to lower
fan shroud retaining bolts.
- Remove the upper fan shroud from the vehicle.
The
fan shroud for the 4.3L engine will require to push the radiator intake
hose aside for clearance.
- Remove the fan and the clutch from the engine. Refer to
Fan Clutch Replacement
In Engine Cooling.
- Remove the lower fan shroud
retaining bolts.
- Remove the lower fan shroud from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install the lower fan
shroud to the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the retaining bolts to the lower fan shroud.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
- Install the fan and the clutch to the engine. Refer to
Fan Clutch Replacement
In Engine Cooling.
- Install the upper fan shroud to the lower fan shroud.
- Install the upper to lower
fan shroud retaining bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 8 N·m (71 lb in).
- Install the upper fan
shroud retaining bolts to the top of the radiator.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 8N·m (71 lb in).
- If equipped with 4.3L,
5.0L, and 5.7L, reseal the engine upper to lower oil level indicator tube.
• | Apply RTV sealant GM P/N 12346286 or equivalent to the top end
of the oil level indicator tube at the joint. |
• | Install the top half of the tube into the lower half of the oil
level indicator tube. |
- Install the bolt retaining
the oil level indicator tube and the transmission fluid fill tube to the
oil fill tube lower support.
Tighten
Tighten the tubes lower support bolt to 4 N·m (44 lb in).
- Install the screw holding
the oil fill tube to the oil fill tube lower support.
- Install the coolant reservoir or surge tank. Refer to
Coolant Recovery Reservoir Replacement
or
Radiator Surge Tank Replacement
.
- Install the air intake duct from the throttle body.
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to the appropriate procedure:
