DTC Descriptors
DTC C0186 55: Lateral Accelerometer Circuit Expected Number of Transition/Events Exceeded
DTC C0186 5A: Lateral Accelerometer Plausibility Failure
DTC C0186 0F: Lateral Accelerometer Circuit Erratic
DTC C0196 55: Yaw Rate Circuit Expected Number of Transition/Events Exceeded
DTC C0196 5A: Yaw Rate Plausibility Failure
DTC C0196 0F: Yaw Rate Circuit Erratic
Circuit/System Description
The lateral accelerometer and the yaw rate sensors are combined into one sensor external to the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES) uses the lateral accelerometer input when calculating the desired yaw
rate. The usable output signal is a serial data signal CAN high and CAN low serial data circuits.
Conditions for Running the DTC
Ignition ON.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
• | The yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor fails an internal self test. |
• | The correlation error between the yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor and steering angle sensor. |
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
• | The EBCM disables the VSES for the duration of the ignition cycle. |
• | The driver information center (DIC) displays the TRAC/STABILITRAK OFF message. |
• | The ABS/TCS remains functional. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | The condition for the DTC is no longer present. |
• | The EBCM clears the history DTC when a current DTC is not detected in 100 consecutive drive cycles. |
Diagnostic Aids

Circuit/System Verification
- Ignition On, verify that DTC U1826 or C0292 are not set.
- With a scan tool, clear the DTC.
- Test drive the vehicle while observing the scan tool Yaw Rate and Lateral Accelerometer Sensor parameter. The parameters should vary as the vehicle changes directions.
⇒ | If the parameters are locked or erratic, replace the yaw/lateral accelerometer sensor. |
- Replace the EBCM.
