Diagnostic Aids

    • If the PWR WDO circuit breaker cycles, the cause could be one of the following:
      • A short to ground in the RAP fuse supply voltage circuit.
      • A short to ground in one of the power window signal or power window motor control circuits. This would cycle the PWR WDO circuit breaker with a switch activation.
    • The WIN RAP relay supplies voltage to the power window system anytime the ignition is in the Accessory or RUN position and also during RAP mode. If voltage is not available to the PWR WND circuit breaker, the cause could be any of the following:
      • The presence of DTC B1477 or B1478 in the BCM
      • The WIN RAP relay battery supply voltage circuit is open or shorted to ground
      • The WIN RAP relay ground circuit is open
      • A faulty WIN RAP relay

DEFINITION: This diagnostic procedure should be used to diagnose a total failure of the power window system.

1

Did you perform the Door Systems Diagnostic Check?

Go to Step 2

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Door Systems

2

  1. Turn the ignition ON, with the engine OFF.
  2. Operate both power windows up and down from both the power window master switch and the individual power window switch.

Do both power windows operate up and down from both switches?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

3

Did either power window operate from either switch?

Go to Power Window Inoperative - Driver Door or Power Window Inoperative - Passenger Door

Go to Step 4

4

Check condition of the PWR WDO circuit breaker.

Is PWR WDO circuit breaker open?

Go to Step 7

Go to Step 5

5

  1. Disconnect the power window master switch.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the power window master switch RAP fuse supply voltage circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 10

6

Connect the test lamp between the power window master switch ground circuit and B+.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 9

Go to Step 11

7

Test for a short to ground in the RAP fuse supply voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Go to Step 8

8

Test for a short to ground in both the power window signal circuits and the power window motor control circuits. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Go to Step 9

9

Inspect for poor connections at the left front power side window switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Go to Step 12

10

Test for an open in power window master switch RAP fuse supply voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 13

Go to Retained Accessory Power (RAP) Inoperative in Retained Accessory Power

11

Repair the open in power window master switch ground circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 13

--

12

Replace the left front power side window switch. Refer to Front Side Door Window Switch Replacement .

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 13

--

13

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?

System OK
