Subject:4L60E and 4L80E Automatic Transmissions Fluid Level Indicator (Dipstick) Will Not Stay Seated

Models:.

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

The automatic transmission fluid level indicator (dipstick) may not stay seated into the fill tube assembly. Replacement of the fluid level indicator and fill tube does not resolve the condition. The interference fit of the fluid level indicator to the fill tube is too loose. The fluid level indicator by design should require some resistance to seat into the tube, as the indicator end does rest against a stop.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Use pliers and lightly squeeze the fill tube to increase the interference fit of the fluid level indicator to the fill tube. Also clean any fluid from the inner diameter of fill tube to prevent transmission fluid from acting as a lubricate on the fluid indicator rubber bushing.

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
