2003 Chevrolet Express GMC Savana Left Rear Park Fuse Blown License Plate and Left Rear Light Inoperative - kw lamp smoke stop electrical wire

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.

Inspect the rear license plate lamp socket for water intrusion. There is no gasket/seal between the license plate lamp socket and license plate lamp housing/lens, which could allow water to enter into the lamp socket.

If water is found in the lamp socket, replace the lamp socket assembly with part number 88986416. This lamp socket has a gasket/seal to help keep any water from entering the socket. Vehicles built after 2/15/03 should not have this concern.

Note: also inspect the gasket between the license plate housing and door. In some cases there is a gap at the top center of the license plate housing to door gasket. When the gasket is applied it starts at the top center and goes around the housing and ends at the top center. If the gasket is short it will leave a gap at the top center and this could let water drip onto the license plate lamp socket. To correct this concern, fill gap with thumb grade black seal.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance.
