DTC Descriptor
DTC P0565 00: Cruise Control Switch Circuit
Circuit/System Description
The cruise control resume/accel and set/coast switches are an input to the engine control module (ECM). The ECM monitors the cruise control resume/accel and set/coast switch signal circuits. The ECM detects a voltage signal on the cruise control resume/accel
and set/coast switch signal circuits when the corresponding switch is applied. This DTC sets if the ECM detects that voltage is present on the cruise control resume/accel or the set/coast switch signal circuits for longer than 1 second, when the cruise
on/off switch is in the off position.
Conditions for Running the DTC
• | The cruise control switch is OFF. |
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The ECM detects that the resume/accel or the set/coast switch is applied for longer than 1 second when the ECM detects that the cruise on/off switch is OFF.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
• | The ECM stores the DTC information into memory when the diagnostic runs and fails. |
• | The malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) will not illuminate. |
• | The ECM records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The ECM stores this information in the Failure Records. |
• | The cruise control system is disabled. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | A last test failed, or the current DTC, clears when the diagnostic runs and does fail. |
• | A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if the failures are not reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic. |

Circuit/System Testing
- Engine ON, cruise control switch ON, verify that the Cruise On/Off Switch parameter reads On.
⇒ | If the scan tool parameter reads Off, test the cruise control on switch signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the turn signal/multifunction switch. |
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the turn signal multifunction switch.
- Engine ON, verify that the Cruise Set/Coast Switch parameter reads Off.
⇒ | If the scan tool parameter reads On, test the cruise control set/coast switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. |
- Engine ON, verify that the Cruise Resume/Accel. Switch parameter reads Off.
⇒ | If the scan tool parameter reads On, test the cruise resume/accel switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the ECM. |
- If all circuits test normal, test or replace the turn signal/multifunction switch.
