Turbocharger Coolant Hoses/Pipes Replacement Inlet - LLY, LBZ

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.
  2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.

    4. Object Number: 1728255 Size: SH
  4. Compress the clamp (1) and disconnect the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe (2) from the thermostat housing.

    5. Object Number: 1728383 Size: SH
  5. Remove the 3 bolts and the turbocharger heat shield.

    6. Object Number: 1728393 Size: SH

    Important: Steps 6 and 7 are to allow for movement of the fuel lines and glow plug bracket to gain access to the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe bolt.

  6. Remove the left bank fuel return line bracket bolt (1) and the 2 glow plug module bracket bolts (2).

  7. Remove the left bank fuel line bracket bolt.

    8. Object Number: 1728525 Size: SH
  8. Remove the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe bolt and remove the inlet hose/pipe.

Installation Procedure
  1. Position the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe to the vehicle.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1728525 Size: SH
  2. Using new brass seals, install the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Position the left bank fuel line and install the bracket bolt.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel line bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  4. Position the glow module bracket to the valve cover, install the 2 bolts (2) and the remaining left bank fuel line bracket bolt (1).

    5. Tighten

        • Tighten the glow plug module bracket bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
        • Tighten the fuel line bracket bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  5. Install the turbocharger heat shield and the 3 bolts.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the turbocharger heat shield bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Position the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe (2) to the thermostat housing and position the compression clamp (1) to secure.
  7. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.
  8. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
  9. Install the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.

Turbocharger Coolant Hoses/Pipes Replacement Outlet - LLY, LBZ

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.

    2. Object Number: 1728383 Size: SH
  2. Remove the 3 bolts and the turbocharger heat shield.
  3. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement.
  4. Remove the EGR cooler tube replacement. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Cooler Replacement.
  5. Remove the center intake manifold. Refer to Center Intake Manifold Replacement.
  6. Remove the thermostat housing crossover. Refer to Thermostat Housing Crossover Replacement.

  7. Remove the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe bolt from the valve cover.

    8. Object Number: 1729993 Size: SH
  8. Remove the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe bolt.
  9. Compress the clamp and disconnect the turbocharger cooling hose/pipe from the thermostat bypass pipe.

    10. Object Number: 1730090 Size: SH
  10. Remove the turbocharger outlet cooler pipe to turbocharger nut.

    11. Object Number: 1728393 Size: SH

    Important: Steps 11 and 12 are to allow movement of the fuel lines and glow plug bracket to gain access to the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe bolt.

  11. Remove the left bank fuel return line bracket bolt (1) and the two glow plug module bracket bolts (2).

  12. Remove the left bank fuel line bracket bolt.

  13. Remove the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe to turbocharger bolt and remove the inlet hose/pipe.

Installation Procedure
  1. Position the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe to the vehicle.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  2. Using new brass seals, install the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe bolt.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Position the left bank fuel line and install the bracket bolt.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the fuel line bracket bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

    5. Tighten

  5. Install the turbocharger heat shield and the 3 bolts.

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the turbocharger heat shield bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  6. Install the turbocharger outlet cooler pipe to the turbocharger nut.

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the turbocharger outlet pipe nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  7. Compress the clamp and connect the turbocharger cooling hose/pipe to the thermostat bypass pipe.

    8. Object Number: 1730036 Size: SH
  8. Install the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe to the valve cover.

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the turbocharger outlet pipe bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  9. Install the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe bolt.

    10. Tighten
    Tighten the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  10. Install the thermostat housing crossover . Refer to Thermostat Housing Crossover Replacement.
  11. Install the center intake manifold. Refer to Center Intake Manifold Replacement.
  12. Install the EGR cooler tube replacement. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Cooler Replacement.
  13. Install the EGR valve. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement.
  14. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.

Turbocharger Coolant Hoses/Pipes Replacement Outlet - LMM

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .

    2. Object Number: 1862415 Size: SH
  2. Remove the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) cooler tube. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Cooler Replacement .

    3. Object Number: 1862416 Size: SH
  3. Remove the thermostat housing crossover. Refer to Thermostat Housing Crossover Replacement .

    4. Object Number: 1730036 Size: SH
  4. Remove the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe bolt from the valve cover.

    5. Object Number: 1729993 Size: SH
  5. Remove the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe bolt.
  6. Compress the clamp and disconnect the turbocharger cooling hose/pipe from the thermostat bypass pipe.
  7. Disconnect the outlet hose from the outlet pipe at the turbocharger.
  8. Unbolt the outlet pipe clamp at the turbocharger.
  9. Remove the pipe assembly.
  10. If replacing the outlet pipe attached to the turbocharger, remove turbocharger assembly. Refer to Turbocharger Replacement .
  11. Remove the pipe clamp at the turbocharger.
  12. Remove the banjo bolt and remove the pipe.

  13. Remove the turbocharger outlet cooler pipe to turbocharger nut.

    14. Object Number: 1730130 Size: SH
  14. Remove the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe to turbocharger bolt and remove the inlet hose/pipe.

Installation Procedure
  1. Position the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe to the vehicle.

    2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  2. Using new brass seals, install the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe bolt.

    3. Tighten
    Tighten the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Position the glow module bracket to the valve cover, install the two bolts (2) and the remaining left bank fuel line bracket bolt (1).

    4. Tighten

    1. Tighten the glow plug module bracket bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).
    2. Tighten the fuel line bracket bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  4. Install the turbocharger heat shield (3) and EGR valve adapter pipe bracket (2).
  5. Install the EGR valve adapter pipe bracket bolts (1).

    6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  6. Position the EGR cooler pipe (4).

  7. Install the EGR cooler pipe bolt.

    8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  8. Install the turbocharger outlet cooler pipe to the turbocharger nut.

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the turbocharger outlet pipe nut to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  9. Install the pipe and banjo nut.
  10. Install the pipe clamp to the turbocharger.
  11. If the outlet pipe has been replaced, install the turbocharger. Refer to Turbocharger Replacement .
  12. Position the outlet pipe.
  13. Install the outlet pipe clamp at the turbocharger.
  14. Connect the outlet hose to the outlet pipe at the turbocharger.
  15. Compress the clamp and connect the turbocharger cooling hose/pipe to the thermostat bypass pipe.

  16. Install the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe to the valve cover.

    17. Tighten
    Tighten the turbocharger outlet pipe bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  17. Install the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe bolt.

    18. Tighten
    Tighten the turbocharger outlet cooling hose/pipe bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  18. Install the thermostat housing crossover . Refer to Thermostat Housing Crossover Replacement .
  19. Install the center intake manifold. Refer to Center Intake Manifold Replacement .
  20. Install the EGR cooler tube replacement. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Cooler Replacement .
  21. Install the EGR valve. Refer to Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve Replacement .
  22. Install the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement .
  23. Perform the turbocharger learn procedure. Refer to Turbocharger Learn .

Turbocharger Coolant Hoses/Pipes Replacement Inlet - LMM

Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement.
  2. Remove the engine cover. Refer to Engine Cover Replacement.
  3. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling.

    4. Object Number: 1728255 Size: SH
  4. Compress the clamp (1) and disconnect the turbocharger inlet cooling hose/pipe (2) from the thermostat housing.

    5. Object Number: 1862415 Size: SH
  5. Remove the EGR cooler pipe bolt.

    6. Object Number: 1862416 Size: SH
  6. Reposition the EGR cooler pipe (4) out of the way.
  7. Remove the EGR valve adapter pipe bracket bolts (1).
  8. Remove the EGR valve adapter pipe bracket (2) and turbocharger heat shield (3).

    7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  7. Position the EGR cooler pipe (4).

    9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 9 N·m (80 lb in).
