Do any indicators illuminate when the chime sounds?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to OFF.
  3. Remove the key from the ignition.
  4. Open the driver door.

Does the chime sound?

--

Go to Step 4

Disconnect the body control module (BCM).

Does the chime sound?

Is the vehicle equipped with a chime module (UL5)?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Reconnect the BCM.
  3. Install a scan tool.
  4. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  5. With a scan tool, observe the Parklamp Switch parameter in the BCM Inputs data list.

Does the Parklamp Switch parameter display Inactive?

  1. Close the driver door.
  2. With a scan tool, observe the Driver Door Ajar Switch parameter in the BCM Inputs data list.

Does the Driver Door Ajar parameter display Inactive?

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Remove the key from the ignition.
  3. Disconnect the BCM connector C4.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the key in ignition signal circuit and battery voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Test the key in ignition switch signal circuit for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the chime module. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .
