Rear Side 60/40 Door Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side E26, 40 Door

Tools Required

J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

1. Remove the side door pull handle screws (3).
2. Remove the side door pull handle (2).
3. Use the J 38778 to disengage the retainers around the outside edges of the lower portion of the door trim panel (1).
4. Carefully pull the door trim panel (1) out of the retainers around the window opening.

A long flat bladed tool may be necessary to aid in releasing the door trim panel (1) from the window opening retainers.

5. Remove the front door panel (1) from the vehicle.

1. Install the door trim panel (1) to the door by performing the following:

•	Align the door trim panel (1) to the retainers in the window opening.

•	Push towards the door to engage the retainers.

•	Align the retainers on the edges of the lower portion of the door trim (1).

•	Push towards the door to engage the retainers.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

2. Install the pull handle (2) and screws (2).

Tighten
Tighten the screws (3) to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).

Rear Side 60/40 Door Trim Panel Replacement - Left Side E26, 60 Door

Tools Required

J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

1. Remove the rear side door trim plate. Refer to Rear Door Trim Plate Replacement .
2. Remove the armrest (3). Refer to Armrest Replacement .
3. Remove the door trim panel screws (2), located behind the armrest.
4. Use the J 38778 to disengage the retainers around the outside edges of the door trim panel (1).
5. Slide the door trim panel  (1) upwards to release the door panel from the door.
6. Remove the rear side door panel (1) from the vehicle.

1. Install the rear side door trim panel (1), by hooking the top of the door trim panel (1) to the door belt line.
2. Align the door trim panel retainers to the door.
3. Push towards the door to engage the retainers to the sheet metal.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

4. Install the door trim panel screws (2).

Tighten
Tighten the screw (2) to 2.0 N·m (18 lb in).

5. Install the armrest (3). Refer to Armrest Replacement .
6. Install the rear side door trim plate. Refer to Front Door Trim Plate Replacement .
