Caution: Refer to Engine Mounting Caution in the Preface section.

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Inspect for loose or missing bolts at the following locations:
  3. • Engine mount bracket to engine
    • Engine mount frame bracket to frame
    • Engine mount to engine mount bracket
    • Engine mount to engine mount frame bracket
  4. Replace missing or loose bolts.
  5. Caution: Refer to Engine Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

  6. In order to access the square tab on the right side of the engine remove the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
  7. Using a jack on the square tab at the rear of the engine block (left side shown) raise the engine in order to complete the following tasks:
  8. • Remove weight from the engine mount.
    • Place a slight tension on the rubber cushion.
    • Observe the engine mount while raising the engine.
  9. Replace the engine mount if the following conditions exist:
  10. • Heat check cracks cover the hard rubber surface.
    • The rubber cushion is separated from the metal plate of the engine mount.
    • There is a split through the rubber cushion.
  11. Install the starter, if removed. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
