Rear Door Emblem/Nameplate Replacement Chevrolet

Special Tools

J 25070 Heat Gun

Removal Procedure

    Note: Be careful not to damage the paint.

  1. Heat the emblem/nameplate using a J 25070 . Hold the heat gun approximately 152 mm (6 inches) from the surface.
  2. Apply the heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds.
  3. Peel the emblem/nameplate from the panel using a flat-bladed plastic tool.
  4. Remove all adhesive from the body panel and the back of the emblem/nameplate using 3M® P/N 07501 or equivalent.

  6. Wash the affected panel with soap and water.
  7. Wipe the panel dry with a lint-free cloth.

  8. Remove all traces of adhesive from the body panel and the back of the molding. Use 3M® General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984 or an equivalent.
  9. Wipe the panel with a clean lint-free cloth and a (50/50 mixture) by volume of isopropyl alcohol and water.

Installation Procedure

    Note: The rear doors must be in a secured position prior to the emblem/nameplate adhesion.

  1. Secure the rear doors.
  2. Use a length of masking tape or magnetic strip in order to mark the location.
  3. Use the following dimensions in order to mark the proper position of the emblem/nameplate on the right rear door:
  4. • 47.5 mm +/- 2 mm (1.9 in +/- 0.1 in) (D) from the vertical edge
    • 200.5 mm +/- 2 mm (7.9 in +/- 0.1 in) (A) from the horizontal edge

  5. Use the following dimensions in order to mark the proper position of the emblem/name plate on the left rear door:
  6. • 200.5 mm +/- 2 mm (7.9 in +/- 0.1 in) (A) from the horizontal edge
    • 47.5 mm +/- 2 mm (1.9 in +/- 0.1 in) (B) from the vertical edge
  7. If the body is below 19°C (66°F) due to shop temperature or outside temperature, warm the body panel using the J 25070 while proceeding with the next step.
  8. If needed, apply a double-coated acrylic foam tape such as 3M® Super Automotive Attachment Tape (2) or an equivalent to the emblem/nameplate:
  9. • 3M® 06380 has a white backing
    • 3M® 06377 has a black backing
    • 3M® 06382 has a gray backing

    Note: Care should be exercised not to touch the tape with your hands or allow the adhesive tape to come in contact with any dirt or foreign matter.

  10. Peel the backing from the adhesive tape.
  11. Align the emblem/nameplate with the previous length of masking tape or magnetic strip.
  12. Firmly press the emblem/nameplate into place for 30 seconds in order to ensure proper adhesion of the emblem/nameplate.
  13. Remove the masking tape or magnetic strip from the right rear door.

Endgate Nameplate (EXPRESS)

Caution: Refer to Exterior Trim Emblem Removal Caution in the Preface section.

Procedure

  1. The part and surface should be 21°C (70°F) prior to installation. The vehicle should remain 21°C (70°F) for one hour after assembly to allow adhesive to develop sufficient bond strength.
  2. Use a J 25070 Heat Gun or equivalent to remove the old nameplate. Clean all adhesive from the endgate and wipe the surface dry with a clean lint-free towel prior to installing the new name plate.
  3. When removing protective liners from the adhesive tape, be careful not to touch tape with hands and do not allow tape to come in contact with dirt or any foreign matter prior to adhesion.
  4. Close the endgate prior to installing the nameplate.
  5. Using the palm of the hand, wet out the nameplate to the endgate to ensure full adhesion of the nameplate is made.
