Repeated Park LPS Fuse Opens - keywords circuit ground intermittent inop inoperative light open short STG

This PI was superseded to include 2007 Model year and include updated info on STG at console. Please discard PIC3981.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

The customer might comment that the park lights, or the interior backlighting of all switches, IPC, and radio are inoperative.

Condition #1

Reports of a short to ground(STG) in circuit #9 (Park lamps) has been found at the left rear bumper impact beam.

Condition #2

Reports of a short to ground(STG) in circuit #8 (Dimmer) has been found in the center console (auto trans)

Condition #1

To check for this condition remove the rear fascia assembly and inspect for a pinched wiring harness on the left side of the bumper beam. Make any necessary repairs to the harness and reroute the harness away from the bumper impact beam.

Condition #2

Check for possible STG in circuit #8 just above the Sensing Diagnostic Module (SDM) on one of the two studs that face rearward from the shifter assembly.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
