Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.

Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  3. Install and firmly hand tighten 2 wheel nuts to opposite wheel studs in order to retain the rotor to the hub.
  4. Remove the brake caliper guide pin bolts (1).
  5. Remove the brake caliper from the caliper bracket and support with heavy mechanics wire or equivalent.

  7. Remove the inboard brake pad (1).
  8. Note the location of the brake pad wear sensor.

  9. Remove the outboard brake pad (2).

  11. Remove the disc brake pad retainers (1).

  12. Object Number: 1910787  Size: SH
  13. Remove the brake caliper bracket bolts (1).
  14. Remove the brake caliper bracket.
  15. Inspect the disc brake mounting and hardware. Refer to Front Disc Brake Mounting and Hardware Inspection .

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the brake caliper bracket.
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the brake caliper bracket bolts (1).
  4. Tighten

        • J41/JM4: Tighten the bolts to 115 N·m (85 lb ft)
        • JL9: Tighten the bolts to 130 N·m (96 lb ft)

  5. Apply a very thin coat of high temperature silicone brake lubricant to the brake hardware mating surfaces of the caliper bracket.
  6. Install the disc brake pad retainers (1).
  7. Important: The wear sensor equipped brake pad must be mounted inboard of the rotor with the leading edge of the wear sensor facing the brake rotor during forward wheel rotation, or at the top of the pad when installed in vehicle position.

  8. Install the inboard brake pad (1).
  9. Note the location of the brake pad wear sensor.

  10. Install the outboard brake pad (2).
  11. Remove the support and position the brake caliper to the caliper bracket.

  12. Object Number: 1910784  Size: SH
  13. Install the brake caliper guide pin bolts (1).
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  15. Remove the wheel nuts retaining the brake rotor to the hub.
  16. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  17. Lower the vehicle.
