Brake Pedal Assembly Replacement Manual Transaxle

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
  2. Remove the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .

  4. Disconnect the brake pedal position sensor (1) electrical connector.
  5. Disconnect the clutch pedal position sensor (2) electrical connector.

  7. Remove the brake pedal pushrod nut (1).

  8. Object Number: 1912275  Size: SH
  9. Remove the brake pedal pushrod washer (1).

  11. Remove the clutch pedal bracket nuts (1).

  12. Object Number: 1912279  Size: SH
  13. Remove the vacuum brake booster nuts (1).

  14. Object Number: 1912286  Size: SH
  15. Using a flat bladed tool, carefully lever the clutch pedal pushrod (1) off the clutch pedal ball stud.
  16. Remove the brake pedal pushrod (2) from the brake pedal pivot pin.

  18. Remove the RH upper brake pedal bracket bolt (1).

  19. Object Number: 1912284  Size: SH
  20. Remove the 2 LH upper brake pedal bracket bolts (1).

  21. Object Number: 1912291  Size: SH
  22. Lower and remove the brake pedal and clutch pedal assembly (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1912291  Size: SH
  1. Raise and position the brake pedal and clutch pedal assembly (1) to the instrument panel tie bar.

  2. Object Number: 1912284  Size: SH
  3. Loosely install the 2 LH upper brake pedal bracket bolts (1).

  4. Object Number: 1912283  Size: SH
  5. Loosely install the RH upper brake pedal bracket bolt (1).

  6. Object Number: 1912279  Size: SH
  7. Loosely install the vacuum brake booster nuts (1).

  8. Object Number: 1912286  Size: SH
  9. Apply a thin coating of high temperature grease GM P/N 12345996 (Canadian P/N 10953501) to the pushrod pin on the brake pedal and to the pushrod pin on the clutch pedal.
  10. Secure the clutch pedal pushrod (1) to the clutch pedal ball stud.
  11. Connect the brake pedal pushrod (2) to the brake pedal pivot pin.

  13. Install the brake pedal pushrod washer (1).

  14. Object Number: 1912277  Size: SH
  15. Loosely install the clutch pedal bracket nuts (1).
  16. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  17. Tighten the vacuum brake booster nuts.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  19. Tighten the clutch pedal bracket nuts.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  21. Tighten the LH and RH upper brake pedal bracket bolts.
  22. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  23. Install the brake pedal pushrod nut (1).
  24. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  25. Connect the brake pedal position sensor (1) electrical connector.
  26. Connect the clutch pedal position sensor (2) electrical connector.
  27. Install the intermediate steering shaft. Refer to Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement .
  28. Warning: Replacement or reprogramming of the ECM, or replacement of the clutch pedal position sensor (CPPS) or clutch pedal requires that a CPPS learn procedure be performed. Failure to perform the CPPS learn procedure may result in personal injury or damage to the vehicle or its components if the vehicle is in gear and the starter motor is accidentally engaged.

  29. Calibrate the brake pedal position sensor. Refer to Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration .
  30. Install the I/P insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .

Brake Pedal Assembly Replacement Automatic Transaxle

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the instrument panel (I/P) insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .

  3. Disconnect the brake pedal position sensor (1) electrical connector.

  4. Object Number: 1912299  Size: SH
  5. Remove the brake pedal pushrod nut (1).

  6. Object Number: 1912300  Size: SH
  7. Remove the brake pedal pushrod washer (1).

  8. Object Number: 1912303  Size: SH
  9. Remove the vacuum brake booster nuts (1).

  10. Object Number: 1912283  Size: SH
  11. Remove the RH upper brake pedal bracket bolt (1).

  12. Object Number: 1912284  Size: SH
  13. Remove the 2 LH upper brake pedal bracket bolts (1).

  14. Object Number: 1912304  Size: SH
  15. Lower and remove the brake pedal assembly (1).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1912304  Size: SH
  1. Raise and position the brake pedal assembly (1) to the instrument panel tie bar.

  2. Object Number: 1912284  Size: SH
  3. Loosely install the 2 LH upper brake pedal bracket bolts (1).

  4. Object Number: 1912283  Size: SH
  5. Loosely install the RH upper brake pedal bracket bolt (1).

  6. Object Number: 1912303  Size: SH
  7. Loosely install the vacuum brake booster nuts (1).

  8. Object Number: 1912300  Size: SH
  9. Apply a thin coating of high temperature grease GM P/N 12345996 (Canadian P/N 10953501) to the pushrod pin on the brake pedal.
  10. Connect the brake pedal pushrod to the brake pedal pivot pin.
  11. Install the brake pedal pushrod washer (1).
  12. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  13. Tighten the vacuum brake booster nuts.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  15. Tighten the LH and RH upper brake pedal bracket bolts.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  17. Install the brake pedal pushrod nut (1).
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).


    Object Number: 1912293  Size: SH
  19. Connect the brake pedal position sensor (1) electrical connector.
  20. Calibrate the brake pedal position sensor. Refer to Brake Pedal Position Sensor Calibration .
  21. Install the I/P insulator. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement .
