Removal Procedure

    Object Number: 1521636 Size: SH
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the shift cable retaining nut near the exhaust heat shield.

    3. Object Number: 1521639 Size: SH
  3. Remove the shift cable from the transmission cable bracket.
  4. Lower the vehicle.
  5. Disconnect the shift cable from the park/neutral position switch.
  6. Remove the console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement.

    7. Object Number: 851244 Size: SH
  7. Disconnect the shift cable from the shift control assembly.
  8. Position the driver side front carpet aside.

    9. Object Number: 1740251 Size: SH
  9. Separate the grommet from the floor pan.
  10. Remove the cable from the vehicle by pulling the cable through the driver floor opening.

Installation Procedure
  1. Insert the cable through the driver floor opening.

    2. Object Number: 1740251 Size: SH
  2. Install the grommet flush with the floor opening.
  3. Install the driver side front carpet.

    4. Object Number: 851244 Size: SH
  4. Connect the shift cable to the shift control assembly.
  5. Install the console. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement.

    6. Object Number: 1521639 Size: SH
  6. Connect the shift cable to the park/neutral position switch.
  7. Connect the shift cable to the transmission cable bracket.
  8. Raise the vehicle.

    9. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1521636 Size: SH
  9. Install the shift cable retaining nut near the exhaust heat shield.

    10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. Check the operation of the shift control cable for proper adjustment through all the gear ranges. If necessary refer to Shift Control Cable Adjustment.
