Circuit/System Description

Battery positive voltage is supplied to the coil and switch sides of the REAR WSW Relay. The body control module (BCM) energizes the relay by grounding the relay coil through the relay control circuit. When the relay is energized, the relay switch is closed and battery voltage is supplied to the washer pump control circuit. The washer pump is grounded through the circuitry of the WSW PUMP Relay to ground terminal G109.

Conditions for Running the DTC

The battery voltage must be between 9-16 volts.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B3811 01

The REAR WSW Relay control circuit is shorted to to B+ while the relay is energized.

B3811 06

The REAR WSW Relay control circuit is shorted to ground or open while the relay is de-energized.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The DTC will be current for as long as the fault is present.
    • The rear washers will be disabled for as long as the B3811 is current.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • This DTC will clear on current status after the condition for setting the fault is corrected.
    • A history DTC will clear after 50 consecutive ignition cycles without a fault present.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the REAR WSW Relay.
  2. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 86 and ground.
  3. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the B+ circuit fuse is open, test the washer pump control circuit terminal 30 for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, test or replace the affected relay.
  4. Connect a test lamp between the B+ circuit terminal 86 and the relay control circuit terminal 85.
  5. Command the affected washer pump ON and OFF with a scan tool. The test lamp should turn ON and OFF when changing between the commanded states.
  6. If the test lamp is always ON, test the control circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
If the test lamp is always OFF, test the control circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the BCM.
  7. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the REAR WSW Relay.
