FUEL AND/OR WATER TEMP.GAGES INTERMITTENT OR INOPERATIVE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985-86 'B' Car

CONDITION: Fuel and/or water temperature gauges have intermittent operation or are totally inoperative.

CAUSE: On the above named vehicles, loose instrument panel retaining clips may cause this condition. The retaining clips hold the gauge in the instrument panel housing and provide electrical contact between the instrument panel (IP) printed circuit and the gauge itself. For the described above associated with the fuel and/or water temp gauges, check these clips and make sure they fit tightly.

CORRECTION: 1. Remove instrument panel gauge cluster per service manual instructions.

2. Check for loose retaining clips on the back of the IP.

3. Reinstall clips (be certain clips do not move freely).

4. Replace gauge cluster.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
