Removal Procedure

J 38185 Hose Clamp Pliers


    Object Number: 537114  Size: SH
  1. Remove air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  3. Important: To prevent shearing of rubber bushing(s) loosen bolt(s) on engine strut(s) before swinging strut(s).

  4. Remove the engine strut brace bolts from the upper tie bar and rotate the strut(s) and brace(s) rearward. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  5. Remove the electric cooling fans. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
  6. Remove the upper radiator brackets and bolts.

  8. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition the radiator inlet hose clamp and the radiator outlet hose clamp.
  9. Disconnect the radiator inlet hose from the radiator.
  10. Disconnect the radiator outlet hose from the radiator.
  11. Remove the low coolant module. Refer to Coolant Level Module Replacement .
  12. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler lines from the radiator. Refer to Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  13. Remove the radiator.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the radiator to the lower mounts.
  2. Connect the transaxle oil cooler lines to the radiator. Refer to Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler Pipes Replacement in Automatic Transaxle - 4T65-E.
  3. Install the low coolant module. Refer to Coolant Level Module Replacement .
  4. Connect the radiator outlet hose to the radiator. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition and install the hose clamp.
  5. Connect the radiator inlet hose to the radiator. Use the J 38185 in order to reposition and install the hose clamp.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the radiator brackets and bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the radiator bracket bolts to 24 N·m (18 lb ft)

  9. Install the electric cooling fans. Refer to Fan Shroud Replacement .
  10. Install the engine mount strut(s) to the proper position. Refer to Engine Mount Strut Replacement .
  11. Install air cleaner and duct assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.4L or Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 3.8L.
  12. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  13. Inspect for leaks.
